When the Ferguson uprising happened it wasn’t black academia, the black clergy or black leaders who showed courage and took the fight to the streets, it was the throwaways, those they look down on… the young brothas and sistas, ‘thugs’, single moms, the homeless, students, brown baggers, families of victims… and those who stood in solidarity with them. The ‘throwaways’ took to the streets because they understood what was at stake: their lives and livelihoods. The black elite did not take to the streets for the same reason. To stand for black people wouldn’t put their lives at stake, but def their livelihoods… so they waited to see how the wind blew, then to see how they could interject themselves and finally how to exploit/capitalize when the cameras and BLM came. Not just them, many in the Ferguson movement switched sides. They didn’t rally the community. They rallied the Democratic Party, the nonprofits, pushed intersectionality… around everything except a ‘black first’ agenda. The cameras and BLM left… and the black establishment has been running away from Ferguson every since. Now its coming back to bite them in the ass…

Not just them, many in the Ferguson movement switched sides.

They didn't rally the community. They rallied the Democratic Party, the nonprofits, pushed intersectionality... around everything except a 'black first' agenda.
