#REPOST Black leaders in the region are not used to getting feedback from black citizens. Most of their biz is handled in secret meetings and when they do elicit feedback from the public, it is generally in a forum they control. But it’s different online. Online is where they get their real first taste of what we think and how we feel.. Their first instinct is to get indignant, in their feelings and to lash out on some ‘oh its easy to criticize’ instead of listening to/learning from the critiques, making the necessary changes and doing better. Their second instinct is to deflect, try to go private in the inbox or go one on one offline…. Ummmm, nooooooooo. You don’t get to stunt or take certain stances publicly, then manipulate to keep criticisms private. What you do publicly, you are required to publicly defend. That’s how it works. To black folks in a position or power or influence, get over yourselves. We have a right to criticize. You are not above reproach. You chose your position, to play your role… and we have have a right to critique your performance. You are not immune. The days of not fighting, rolling over and coming back to us like “that’s the best we can get” & feeding us crumbs while you feast and live the glamorous life at our expense are over. You will be held accountable when you exploit, settle or sellout.
