Black politics in St. Louis… A lot of what white folks do is because instead of fighting for our interests, black leaders are complicit, sell us out, turn a blind eye and put their personal interest before the interest of the collective… Blacks on both sides (the Dem establishment machine vs the black misleadership/overseer/gatekeeper class)
“The racial divide is deeper and wider than I’ve seen it.
Also you’ve got more Black politicians exploiting the racial divisions for their own political benefits.
The problem is that the poor people with the problems are not benefiting one bit.
Without consensus on addressing the issues not enough resources and good will can be marshaled to make a significant difference.
But it’s North St Louis and it’s residents that most desperately need the help.
Violence is making neighborhoods like Walnut Park a war zone.
All over North St Louis are abandoned disserted neighborhoods with abandoned buildings adding to the war torn landscape.
In some areas 40 percent of the people are living below poverty, and 50 percent of young African American males are unemployed.
Against this backdrop what is the Board of Aldermen fretting about? Freeholders!
They’re worried about whether the Mayor’s group of Black people will get on the Board of Freeholders or will the Aldermen’s group of Black folks get the okay.
The Mayor’s Blacks were rejected because the Black Aldermen wanted their own group.
Freeholders won’t have an impact on anything for at least a year but meanwhile the constituents of the Aldermen in hard pressed violent inner city neighborhoods are struggling to survive each day.
Freeholders are getting the energy right now,
Not how to address the violent crime.
Not how to bring back struggling neighborhoods.
Aldermen are arguing with Mayor Krewson over whose Blacks are Better.”
