Last night was rough. I was out when I received a phone call about Bassem. You already know shit is fucked when the convo begins “Have you heard…”.

I would have never guessed the next words would be “Bassem is dead”. #Ferguson brought out the best and worst in folks. It brought out the best in Bassem, a real people’s advocate. Many of you knew him as a livestreamer but he was so much more than that. He was a voice… that spoke for Palestinian and black liberation. He spoke out against the police even putting them on blast when they tried to get him to snitch.

I hardly had time to process this news. His homegoing is today (details in the comments). I think about him, Darren, Skeeta… Josh. All the people who struggle in the aftermath, experienced personal tragedies, were jailed or lost their lives.

I think about those who took the easy way out, who sold us out, exploited the murder of Mike Brown and aligned themselves with Black Lives Matter, Deray, multimillion dollar nonprofits and the Democrat Party… those who exploited our collective actions for a come up, notoriety and fame. Or as a stepping stone to bigger and better. Many of the same folks you will see invoke Bassem’s name today for clicks, likes and retweets.

The exploitation never stops. Even in death. Like I said, #Ferguson brought out the best and worst in folks. It brought out the best in Bassem.

RIP Comrade.

Photo – Lessons from Ferguson…

”Our movement was never shits and giggles, tweets or hashtags. We didn’t engage in symbolic action… Politics/exploiting our votes came into the equation when BLM and nonprofits touched down.

We had the establishment against the ropes, we saw the fear in their eyes… we were unwavering which is why we were undermined with assistance from our own… damn near that whole frontline, many of the people y’all big up…. the ‘prominent’ protesters selected to be spokespeople, BLM mascots, to give people like Deray and Charles Wade credibility, traitors who allowed themselves to be black faces of large white nonprofits and black clergy who jumped out in front of the cameras in the attempt to get their MLK on and whore themselves out to the NPIC… Then came the celebrity actorvists.

That is how what we started went from this… to kneeling. From fighting back to voting. And how they got you to believe what was revolutionary was reactionary and what was reactionary was revolutionary.”

We are worst off today. All that energy and hundreds of millions of dollars squandered. The Dem Party, NPIC, BLM, Deray and all the supporting actors? Completely missing in action.
