I would have never guessed the next words would be "Bassem is dead". #Ferguson brought out the best and worst in folks. It brought out the best in Bassem, a real people's advocate. Many of you knew him as a livestreamer but he was so much more than that. He was a voice... that spoke for Palestinian and black liberation. He spoke out against the police even putting them on blast when they tried to get him to snitch.

I hardly had time to process this news. His homegoing is today (details in the comments). I think about him, Darren, Skeeta... Josh. All the people who struggle in the aftermath, experienced personal tragedies, were jailed or lost their lives.

I think about those who took the easy way out, who sold us out, exploited the murder of Mike Brown and aligned themselves with Black Lives Matter, Deray, multimillion dollar nonprofits and the Democrat Party... those who exploited our collective actions for a come up, notoriety and fame. Or as a stepping stone to bigger and better. Many of the same folks you will see invoke Bassem's name today for clicks, likes and retweets.

The exploitation never stops. Even in death. Like I said, #Ferguson brought out the best and worst in folks. It brought out the best in Bassem.

RIP Comrade.

St. Louis police pressured me β€œto snitch on my friends,” says Palestinian-American protester

Bassem Masri has spoken of how he was threatened with re-arrest if he didn't become a collaborator.
