I don’t like the term POC for the same reason I don’t like the word minorities… these words put us all under the same umbrella and treats us all as if we are the same, gives the illusion there is unity where no unity exists and completely ignores the fact that these other groups either directly exploit or benefit from the exploitation of black people. POC also includes Arabs who set up shop in our communities then treat us with disrespect. It also includes Asians nailshop and beauty supply owners who treat black women with disrespect. We are not them and they are not us. The word minorities also includes white women, women of the dominant society, of privilege… the group that has benefited more from affirmative action than any other group. We are not them and they are not us. POC and minorities have not lived the black experience. They benefit from both the exploitation of black people and the progress of black people. Marinate on that.
