I didn’t go in hard in the build up to last week’s election because I do not see voting as a solution to any of the many issues facing St. Louis. For one, black people have not historically benefited from the vote. The major accomplishment that came out of the voting act was black people simply being able to participate in a deeply flawed and corrupt process that is manipulated by both parties. We gained nothing. No lobbyists for black issues. No reparations for slavery, for the loss of our culture, language, religion, having our families destroyed, being treated like cattle let alone hundreds of years of free labor. All we got was black faces in high places who show the same contempt for black people as racists in high places, separate and unequal schools, urban warzones, oppressive policing and black class warfare… All while the fruits of our labor (and those who came before us) make trillions for those outside our community. That’s the blueprint. It’s 2019, the era of Trump… Not one black candidate, elected leader or member of the CBC is talking about how we can benefit from our own talents, black empowerment or a path to self determination.
