All this social upheaval as we approach the 5th year anniversary of the Ferguson uprising… and what if anything have learned? We still lack foresight… We do not look for weak links in issues that can be exploited, this is why we revisit abortion time and time again. We do not prepare for battle, we don’t even see them coming. We react, after the fact. Emotionally after being caught slipping yet once again. All these nonprofits, all the millions poured into ‘fighting’ issues, all these professional activists… all these politicians ‘fighting for us’ and we’re not only losing, we’re regressing regardless of the issue. The opposition isn’t marching. Isn’t protesting… isn’t building fake coalitions, isn’t pushing diversity or intersectionality. They’re not using celeb mouth pieces… Their elected leaders aren’t scared to rock the boat or impose their will, even if their actions are later overturned or ruled unconstitutional.
5 years post Ferguson. 5 years of suffering loss after loss, humiliation after humiliation, having bills watered down or rescinded… 5 years of living with the consequences of corruption, exploitative leadership and controlled opposition… and jumping out in front of battles that are not our battles.
How is our response more of the same? I’ll wait.
